Lotus Outreach International

Did you know that Wednesday, March 8 is International Women's Day? Since Poo~Pourri is a woman-owned business with a 75% female staff, we wanted to do something extra special to celebrate. That’s when we found Lotus Outreach International, a non-profit that empowers girls in Cambodia and India through education.

Every day we get the opportunity to change the path we are on; make a move for the better, alter our habits out of boredom, or even just hideout for an afternoon of mediation. Imagine living in a world where your options are so limited and one decision could trap you in a brutal journey. This is the horrific life of thousands of young girls in Cambodia.

Poo~Pourri is a woman-owned business with a 75% female staff

When girls in poor, rural Cambodian villages reach 11 or 12 years-old they have few paths to choose from. Their primary choices are to become a child bride, or cross into Thailand where they’re promised jobs as nannies or servers, only to be sold into brothels. Education provides a crossroad for these girls, but school tuition and boarding costs are too expensive for most rural families.

Lotus Outreach International offers these girls a different path, through programs like Girls Access to Education (GATE). The GATE program in Cambodia provides scholarships to cover all costs of attending school. The total is a simple $1,200 a year for classes, room and board, supplies, and all other expenses.

It’s shocking that such a small amount can make a big difference! That’s why we donated 100 percent of our sales from poopourri.com, from the weekend of March 3rd thru 5th, to Lotus Outreach International. Thanks to our customers' unbelievable support, we were able to donate $30,000, enough to send 25 girls to school where they will get the education they deserve, to attain the life they dream of. Together we are being bold for change.
